The Power Situation in Norway as of 2 May 2007

Lysaker, 2 may 2207
Nord Pool has received the following information from the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE):

Record high inflows and increase in the reservoir levels
The inflow to the Norwegian power system was 4.5 TWh in week 17. This is the highest inflow ever for this week. Declining temperatures throughout the week has caused a large amount of the snow to melt. Total inflow is 22 TWh so far this year. This is 9 TWh, or about 70 percent more than normal.
The high level of inflow contributed to a 2.7 percentage point increase in the Norwegian reservoirs. The reservoir level is now 38.5 percent, which is 3.9 percentage points above normal. Swedish reservoir levels where 27.9 percent at the end of week 17.

As a consequence of high inflows and low electricity demand, prices of electric power in Norway, Sweden and Finland decreased from week 16 to 17. Danish prices increased following low wind power production and rising electricity prices in Germany. There was an increase in Norwegian and Swedish electricity exports to Denmark and in Nordic exports to Germany, compared to last week.
