The Power Situation in Norway as of 28 March 2007

Lysaker, 28 March 2007

Nord Pool has received the following information from the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE):

Reduced consumption and production of electricity
Nordic consumption of electricity so far this year is 4.6 percent lower than in the same period of last year. Norwegian consumption this year is 4.2 percent less than the year before. Most of the downfall is caused by lower winter temperatures, but there is also a reduction in the consumption of electricity when adjusted for temperatures.
Total Nordic power production in the first 12 weeks of 2006 has been 6 percent lower than in the same weeks last year. There is a 12 percent reduction in Norwegian power production in the same period. This is mainly due to low demand, and to lower reservoir levels at the start of the year. Danish power production has also been considerably reduced compared to last year. Lower German electricity prices makes for less Danish exports, and thereby decreased power demand in Denmark. Total Nordic electricity import has increased by 1.5 TWh since last year. This is mainly caused by Finnish imports of electricity over the new cable connecting Finland and Estonia, and by reduced Nordic exports to Germany.

Norwegian reservoir level was 41.1 percent at the end of week 11. The reservoir level decreased by 2.1 percentage points throughout the week, and is now 1.7 percentage points below normal.
