The Power Situation in Norway as of 21 March 2007

Lysaker, 21 March 2007

Nord Pool has received the following information from the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE):

Inflow above normal, and a high level of snow in the mountains
In week 8 inflow to the Norwegian reservoirs where 1.6 TWh, three times as much as normal. Total inflow so far this year is 12 TWh, 4 TWh above normal. There is now about 15 percent more snow than normal in the mountains. This will raise inflows to Norwegian reservoirs in the spring culmination.
Norwegian reservoir level was 43.2 percent at the end of week 11. The reservoir level decreased by 1.1 percentage points throughout the week, and is now 1.4 percentage points above last years level.

Higher temperatures led to a downfall in Nordic and Norwegian electricity consumption. In week 11 the Norwegian consumption of electricity was 5 percent less than in the week before. Reduced consumption pushed prices at the Nordic electricity exchange downwards. The average price was 18.6 øre/kWh in NO1 and 19 øre/kWh in NO2/NO3 in week 11. A spot price contract with a 1.9 øre/kWh mark-up, would have given a price of 25.1 øre/kWh. This is a decrease of 1.8 øre/kWh from last week.
