The Power Situation in Norway as of 7 February 2007

Lysaker, 7 February 2007

Nord Pool has received the following information from the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE):

Temporary mild weather gave reduced power consumption
Higher temperatures in week 5 led to a drop of 6 percent in Nordic consumption of electricity compared to week 4. The reduction was strongest in Norway, where consumption fell by 9 percent. This contributed to lower prices at the Nordic power exchange. Norwegian prices decreased with between 9 and 11 percent compared to the week before. Aggregated Nordic power production fell in the same period, as hydro- and nuclear production was reduced.
Inflow to the Norwegian power system was 50 percent higher than normal in week 5. The reservoir level in Norway was 58.8 percent at the end of week 5, down 2.3 percentage points from last week. Compared to normal there is a 1.8 percentage points deficit in the hydro reservoirs. The reservoir level in Sweden is now 54.2 percent, 3.5 percentage points lower than in week 4.
