The Power Situation in Norway as of 06 September 2006

Lysaker, 06 September 2006

Nord Pool has received the following information from the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE):

Much rain and increased water reservoir level
It fell plenty of rain in many areas of Norway in week 35. The effective inflow was 40 percent higher than normal even though it fell 70 percent more rain than normal. Some of the rainfall in week 35 contributed to increased soil and ground water levels.

At the end of week 35 the water level in Norwegian reservoirs was 60.2 percent. This is an increase of 1.4 percentage points from week 34. The increase was highest in South Norway where the water levels are lowest. The water reservoir level is now 24.6 percentage points below normal. The reservoir level in Sweden is at present 61.3 percent. This is a decrease of 0.3 percentage points from last week.

The prices at the electricity exchange fell from week 34 to week 35, but the prices are still among the highest ever observed in the Nordic power market. Some of the Nordic nuclear power production is still inoperative due to lack of approval from the Swedish authorities or due to yearly maintenance.
