The Power Situation in Norway as of 19 July 2006

Lysaker, 19 July 2006

Nord Pool has received the following information from the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE):

Reduced Norwegian electricity production
The Norwegian electricity production was reduced with 8 percent from week 27 to week 28. Less Nordic electricity demand and increased imports from Russia has contributed to the reduced production from Norwegian hydro power producers and a drop in the Norwegian electricity exports. Hot weather and small amounts of wind has contributed to higher prices in Germany and consequently increased the southbound Nordic electricity export.

The effective inflow to the hydro reservoirs in Norway was 3.5 TWh in week 28, i.e. about 90 percent of normal. Since week 16, when the snowmelt normally starts the inflow has been approximately 10 TWh less than normal. The reservoir level in Norway increased with 2.2 percentage points to 60.7 percent during week 28. At the end of week 28 there was a shortfall of almost 13 TWh in the Norwegian reservoirs. The level in Sweden is 64.7 percent after a 1.5 percentage point increase in week 28.
