LOS ANGELES, Jan. 4, 2008 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) has named Martin Zelman vice president of internal audit. Zelman succeeds Carolyn Pittman who now leads the company's Enterprise Shared Services organization.

In his new role, Zelman will be responsible to the audit committee of the board of directors and the chief financial officer for establishing and maintaining an effective internal audit program for the company. He will manage the audit functions located at various sites, supporting the company sector presidents and management teams to execute an audit program that provides independent and objective evaluation of control systems and operational effectiveness.
"This appointment underscores the value we place on an effective internal audit organization," said James F. Palmer, Northrop Grumman chief financial officer. "Marty will be central to Northrop Grumman's overall risk management approach."
Zelman joined Northrop Grumman in 1976 and was most recently vice president and controller for the Mission Systems sector. Previously, he held a number of financial leadership positions with the former TRW Automotive and Energy businesses, and was responsible for the design and implementation of a financial shared services organization for the TRW Automotive group. He was also the assistant controller and director of financial reporting for TRW. Zelman earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics and a master's degree of business administration in operations research from the University of California at Los Angeles.
