SoundBite Communications Receives SAS 70 Type II Auditor's Report

On-Demand Service Provider Follows Best Practices for Handling Customer Data

BEDFORD, Mass., Jan. 8, 2008 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- SoundBite Communications Inc. (Nasdaq:SDBT), a leading provider of on-demand automated voice messaging solutions, today announced it has received its SAS 70 Type II auditor's report. The audit opinion, which was completed by Vitale, Caturano & Company Ltd., was unqualified. An unqualified opinion is the highest designation given and indicates that each of the control objectives specified by the service organization was met without any significant exception or deficiency. Obtaining a SAS 70 auditor's report has become a requirement by organizations to ensure that practices are in place to safely protect their customer data.

A SAS 70 auditor's report provides assurance that a service provider has undergone and satisfied an in-depth audit of its internal and external control activities. A Type II report not only includes the service provider's description of controls, but also includes detailed testing of the service provider's controls over a minimum six month period. SoundBite's SAS 70 Type II report demonstrates that the company's description of certain relevant controls is fairly presented; the controls have been suitably designed to achieve the control objectives specified in the description; and that such controls have been placed in operation over the period April 1 to September 30, 2007.

"Our on-demand customer communications platform includes a number of security best practices designed to keep our clients' customer data safe and confidential, such as encryption of sensitive data, secure transmission, audit trails, non-shared accounts, access policies and formal incident response," said Ed Gardner, Information Security Officer at SoundBite Communications. "In addition, we have instituted periodic internal and third-party reviews of our security infrastructure, including our annual voluntary external SAS 70 audit and PCI compliance."

SoundBite routinely conducts independent audits to provide assurance that its clients' customer data is protected and secure. Most recently, the company announced its compliance under the Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security Standard, a critical requirement in order for a service provider to process, store, or transmit cardholder data. The company also received an unqualified opinion for its 2006 SAS 70 Type I auditor's report.
