Wärtsilä delivers 203 MW gas power plant to South Texas Electric Cooperative in Texas, USA

Wärtsilä Corporation, Company announcement, 14 January 2008

Wärtsilä Corporation, a leading global provider of power solutions,
has been awarded an equipment supply contract by South Texas Electric
Cooperative (STEC), a non-profit generation and transmission
cooperative. The contract for the 203 MW gas-fired power plant is
valued at over 83 million euros. The first part of the power plant is
expected to enter commercial operation in late 2009, with the
remaining part beginning commercial operation by the end of 2010.

The power plant will be located about 80 kilometers southwest of San
Antonio, Texas, and it will be connected to the ERCOT grid.
Wärtsilä's delivery includes 24 gas engines, all related mechanical
and electrical auxiliaries, as well as SCR's, installation and
commissioning support and training."The analysis of the various options proved Wärtsilä a clear winner
environmentally, economically, and in the project's ability to meet
rapidly changing market conditions," says Michael Packard, General
Manager of STEC."This flexible power plant will efficiently provide the generation
needed for the region's growth, as well as the grid stability
required for the increasing influx of wind power," says Frank
Donnelly, President of Wärtsilä North America.

Wärtsilä's flexible power plants have the highest simple cycle
efficiency available in the industry and constant performance over
varying ambient conditions. In addition, Wärtsilä power plants have
small unit sizes, low lifecycle costs and they allow customers to
meet today's increasingly stringent environmental requirements. The
features of the plants include the ability to reach full plant output
in eight minutes, and provide 25% power in two minutes.
