Optium Transitions to Production On 40Gb/s DPSK and 40Gb/s Small Form Factor NRZ Transceivers

Industry's Broadest Portfolio of 40Gb/s Transceiver Products On Display At 8th Fiber Optics Expo in Tokyo, Japan

HORSHAM, Pa., Jan. 15, 2008 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Optium Corporation (Nasdaq:OPTM), a leading supplier of high-performance optical subsystems, today announced the transition of two additional 40Gb/s solutions to production during Optium's second fiscal quarter ending February 2, 2008. Optium's new 40Gb/s DPSK 300 pin transceiver and 40Gb/s small form factor NRZ 300 pin transceiver each began shipping to customers in early December 2007 as part of Optium's fiscal 2008 ramp of its 40Gb/s product line. Optium's full line of 40Gb/s transceiver products will be on display at the Fiber Optics Exposition in Tokyo, Japan, January 16-18, 2008.

The DPSK and small form factor NRZ 40Gb/s products complement Optium's existing 40Gb/s portfolio of tunable NRZ and Optical Duo-Binary 300 pin transceivers. All of Optium's 40Gb/s products are offered with a 300 pin MSA interface and together represent the industry's broadest and most advanced 40Gb/s transceiver portfolio addressing both line and client side applications. In addition, Optium intends to further expand its 40Gb/s portfolio with an RZ-DQPSK solution currently targeted for release by the end of fiscal 2008.

"Demand for 40Gb/s transceivers continues to build as our customers adopt 40Gb/s solutions to address increasing bandwidth requirements cost effectively," commented Tony Musto, Vice President of Sales & Marketing for Optium Corporation. "Optium is driving this market transition with its leadership in module-based 40Gb/s solutions. Similar to our approach in 10Gb/s, we are developing a powerful portfolio of 40Gb/s products by utilizing a common 40Gb/s 300 pin platform with diverse modulation schemes and advanced features, including tunability on multiple modulation formats, high tolerance to chromatic dispersion and polarization mode dispersion (PMD) impairments and the ability to work in a network through multiple ROADMs at 100GHz and 50GHz channel spacing. This module-based approach can enable unmatched design, cost and performance flexibility for our customers as they migrate to next generation 40Gb/s technologies," concluded Musto.

Optium's 40Gb/s 300 pin product portfolio includes:

 * Tunable NRZ: Applications include client side interface and test
equipment. Tunable interface provides enhanced flexibility when
compared to standard NRZ products. Full C-Band operation at data
   rates from 39.8 to 44.6Gb/s.
 * SFF NRZ: Lower cost, client side solution designed in a smaller
   footprint (4" x 5" x 0.53"), enabling higher port density on smaller
size line cards, as required by certain customers. Supports data
   rates from 39.8 to 43.1Gb/s.
 * Optical Duo-Binary: Modulation format more tolerant to the effects
of chromatic dispersion than NRZ. Full C-Band operation designed
for line side applications. Module operates at data rates from
   39.8 to 44.6Gb/s.
 * DPSK: Full C-Band operation with improved performance in long haul
applications. Module operates at data rates from 39.8 to 44.6Gb/s.
 * RZ-DQPSK (fiscal 2008 product development roadmap). To offer higher
tolerance to chromatic dispersion and PMD, along with a narrow
spectrum to be easily transported on ROADM based networks with a
50GHz channel plan and optimized for metro and long-haul networks.
 * Optium's 40Gb/s modules are designed to support the OIF SFI-5
standard and applicable Telecordia/ITU interface requirements. All
   modules support the 300 pin MSA footprint for 40Gb/s (5" x 7" x
   0.7") unless otherwise noted.

Optium will be showcasing its broad portfolio of optical communications solutions, including fixed and tunable 10Gb/s and 40Gb/s transceivers and subsystems, 10Gb/s pluggable transceivers, cable TV trunking and distribution subsystems and Optium's next generation WSS ROADM product line at the 8th Fiber Optics Expo (FOE) in Tokyo, Japan. Optium representatives will be available at Booth #3-60 from January 16-18, 2008.
