German Student Receives Versant Scholarship

Versant and Hamburg University Award 'Versant Advanced Database Scholarship'


HAMBURG, Germany and REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Jan. 21, 2008 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Versant Corporation (Nasdaq:VSNT), an industry leader in specialized data management software with its European Headquarters in Hamburg, Germany and Hamburg University are pleased to announce the initial awarding of the "Versant Advanced Database Scholarship." The recipient of the scholarship will receive 800 EUR per month and payment of tuition fees by Versant for a two year period. Based upon outstanding performance in the topic of "Database technology for complex information systems," Versant and Hamburg University have jointly awarded the scholarship to Mr. Yaniv Schwerin.

The public award ceremony for the Versant Scholarship will be held in the main building of Hamburg University on January 22, 2008 at 3:00 PM local time and hosted by Prof. Dr. Holger Fischer, Vice President Study and Science at Hamburg University, and Jochen Witte, CEO of Versant.

The "Versant Advanced Database Scholarship" will next be available with the upcoming winter semester. In order to be eligible for the scholarship, candidates must be matriculated in the Masters Degree in Computer Sciences at Hamburg University and specializing in Databases / Distributed Information Systems, and will be required to obtain a letter of recommendation from the Commissioner of the Computer Science Department, Professor Dr. Norbert Ritter. Versant, in collaboration with Hamburg University, will ultimately award the scholarship to a worthy student. For the winter semester 2008/2009, applications must be submitted no later than July 15, 2008.
