Photo Release -- Northrop Grumman Names Carl R. Smith Vice President of Infrared Countermeasures


ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill., Jan. 21, 2008 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) has appointed Carl R. Smith as vice president of Infrared Countermeasures (IRCM) for the company's Defensive Systems Division, effective immediately.

In his new position, Smith will have executive responsibility for the execution of all IRCM programs including Directional Infrared Countermeasures (DIRCM), Large Aircraft Infrared Countermeasures (LAIRCM) and the company's Guardian(tm) Counter-Man Portable Air Defense System (C-MANPADS).

Smith joined the company in 1984 and has held a number of leadership positions in engineering and program management including manager of microwave power module systems engineering, engineering program manager for Falcon Edge, director of systems engineering and engineering program manager for all radio frequency combat and information systems programs. He most recently served as vice president of engineering and manufacturing.

Smith earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Michigan Technological University, and a master's of business administration degree in research and engineering management from the Illinois Institute of Technology. He has also completed the General Manager's Program at Harvard University.
