RALEIGH, N.C., Jan. 21, 2008 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- MJM, Inc., the global leader in insurance fraud mitigation and claims investigative services, working in conjunction with Everest National Insurance Company, successfully aided in the arrest and conviction of a California man for fraudulent workers' compensation insurance claims.
Roman Romero, a general laborer in San Jose, Calif., accepted a plea bargain with the Kern County, Calif. District Attorney which consisted of one Felony Count of Insurance Fraud, five years supervised Probation, time served over 30 days incarceration and $22,000 in restitution.
Romero alleged that on June 17, 2002, he sustained back and neck injuries while lifting a tree on the job. He sought medical attention and was treated and released on total temporary disability. During a 2004 deposition, Romero denied receiving any income, performing any work activities or having the physical ability to perform any duties associated with gardening/landscaping work.
When Romero began missing medical appointments, a representative from Everest National requested MJM, Inc. to conduct surveillance. During the investigation, MJM obtained video documentation of Romero conducting activities as a gardener/landscaper while still claiming to his physicians that he could not work.
With the cooperation of Everest National, MJM and the Kern County District Attorney, Romero was arrested November 6, 2007. His official sentencing is scheduled for February.
