The power situation in Norway as of 23 January 2008

Lysaker, 23 January 2008
Nord Pool has received the following information from the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE):

Fall in power prices

The prices at the Nordic power exchange fell from week 2 to 3, as a result of warmer weather and lower power consumption. In Norway, temperatures were 2 to 5 degrees below normal. In the middle and north of Norway, the average spot price was 35 øre/kWh, that is 2 øre lower than the week before. The average spot price in southern Norway was 36 øre/kWh.

Prices in the financial market went down as well. This comes as a consequence of decreasing world market prices of oil, gas and coal, in addition to lower emission prices. At the same time, reservoir levels are high, and weather forecasts are mild and wet.
