The power situation in Norway as of 30 January 2008

Lysaker, 30 January 2008
Nord Pool has received the following information from the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE):

Increased Norwegian power production

The Norwegian power production increased by 194 GWh, or 7 percent, from week 3 to 4. Most of the increase accrued in Sothern Norway. Consumption rose as well, but not by as much as the increase in production. Norwegian electricity exports were thereby higher compared to the week before. In week 4, the Norwegian export was 101 GWh.
The inflow to the Norwegian reservoirs was 1.0 TWh in week 4. This is about 50 percent more than normal. The Norwegian reservoir level fell by 2.3 percentage points during the week, to 67.4 percent at the end of the week. The reservoir level is now 4.8 percentage points above normal.

There were merely minor changes in the prices at the Nordic power exchange from week 3 to 4. A spot price contract, with a 1.9 øre/kWh mark-up, would have given a price of 44.8 øre/kWh to a consumer in the south of Norway. The same contract in Middle- and Northern Norway would have given prices of 47.6 and 46,8 øre/kWh respectively. One year ago, electricity prices was about 30 percent lower.
