Strike at one of Volvo's US truck plants

Strike at one of Volvo's US truck plants

The United Auto Workers (UAW) union called a strike this morning at 6:00 a.m.
Swedish time (CET) for the slightly more than 2,600 members at Volvo's and
Mack's plant in New River Valley, Virginia. The strike will stop practically all
production until further notice.

Negotiations with the UAW have been under way since January 8 and when the
current contract expired at midnight, US time (EST) January 31, and the parties
had not succeeded in reaching an agreement, the UAW chose to engage in a strike.
Slightly more than 2,600 of a total of 2,900 employees at the plant in New River
Valley are covered by the strike, which will stop practically all production at
the plant until further notice.

Volvo's and Mack's plant in New River Valley currently produces about 100 trucks
per day, most of which are Volvo.
