Finnair has today decided to acquire one additional twin-engine Airbus A330 wide body aircraft for its long-haul fleet in spring 2010. The airline has confirmed one of its three remaining options. “This aircraft acquisition is a continuation of our planned 12 Airbus aircraft fleet. According to our assessments, Asian traffic will continue to grow in the long run and we want to prepare for this by increasing our capacity. The order books of the aircraft manufacturers are full, so fulfilling the option makes sense,” says Finnair EVP Scheduled Passenger Traffic Henrik Arle. Finnair currently has ten long-haul aircraft of which three are Airbus A340s and seven Boeing MD-11s. This year two more A340s will be acquired. In 2000-2010 the MD-11 fleet will be replaced with new Airbus A330s. The now ordered aircraft represents additional growth. The twin-engine A330 burns over 20 per cent less fuel and emits over 20 per cent less carbon dioxide than the MD-11. Finnair Plc Communications 4.2.2008
