Amsterdam, February 4, 2008 – The Management Board of the Dutch company
SMARTRAC N.V. (stock abbreviation SM7) has decided to buy back shares in
the company up to a maximum value of EUR 7.5 million. SMARTRAC will
authorise a bank to conduct the share buyback. The buyback of shares will
be conducted via the stock exchange. The share buyback should be completed
by April 30, 2008, at the latest.

The SMARTRAC Management Board intends to utilise the shares from the
current buyback in the context of potential acquisitions as well as for the
company’s own employee share programs.

According to a decision made at the SMARTRAC Annual General Meeting on June
22, 2007, the Management Board is authorized to repurchase and acquire up
to a maximum of 10 percent of the company’s issued share capital. With the
current share buyback, the Management Board will make use of this
authorisation.

The share buyback will take place in accordance with Commission Regulation
(EC) No. 2273/2003 of 22 December 2003 implementing Directive 2003/6/EC of
the European Parliament and of the Council as regards exemptions for
buy-back programmes and stabilisation of financial instruments.

Accordingly, SMARTRAC will provide information about the progress of the
share buyback on a regular basis on the company’s website at
www.smartrac-group.com in the Investor Relations section.
