The power situation in Norway as of 6 February 2008

Lysaker, 6 February 2008
Nord Pool has received the following information from the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE):

High inflow and high Norwegian and Nordic exports
High inflow, particular in the south of Norway, contributed to an increase in the Norwegian hydro power production from week 4 to 5. At the same time it was a small decrease in the Norwegian power consumption caused by warm weather.

As a result, the Norwegian net exports increased by 33 GWh from week 4 to 135 GWh in week 5. The Norwegian exports to Denmark were largely on its capacity limit during the week. As a consequence of higher price in Germany most of week 5, it was almost unilateral exports from Denmark to Germany. It was also increased exports from Sweden to Germany, and the total Nordic net exports amounted to 135 GWh in week 5. That is 117 GWh more than in the week before.

The inflow to the Norwegian reservoirs was 1.2 TWh in week 5, which is 70 percent above normal. The Norwegian reservoir level fell by 1.2 percentage points during week 5, and is now 65.5 percent. That is 4.7 percentage points above the median level of the week
