Release of a Voting Rights announcement

On February 8, 2008, Barclays Global Investors UK Holdings Limited, London,
England, has informed us according to § 21, para. 1 WpHG (German Securities
Trading Act), that they exceeded the 3 % threshold of the voting rights in
RWE Aktiengesellschaft, Essen, Deutschland, on February 6, 2008 and held
3.07 % of the voting rights (i.e. 16.080.093 shares with voting rights).

These 3,07 % of the voting rights in RWE Aktiengesellschaft were attributed
to Barclays Global Investors UK Holdings Limited pursuant to § 22 para. 1
sent. 1 no. 6 WpHG in connection with § 22 para. 1 sent. 2 WpHG.
