GeoSentric Oyj (GyPSii) (OMX: GEO1V), the world's leading geo-location and social networking provider for mobile phones and Internet devices and NAVTEQ (NYSE: NVT), a leading global provider of digital maps for vehicle navigation and location-based solutions, today announced an agreement for NAVTEQ to provide digital maps and location-based content to the GyPSii platform. GyPSii is a user-generated content, social networking, search and location-based suite of integrated mobile and web applications. The GyPSii application will utilise NAVTEQ worldwide data coverage in Europe, North America and Emerging Markets. GyPSii provides mobile and internet users the ability to generate and store content such as photos, video, audio and text, and associate location context around that content, creating “a Place”. Users can share their “Places,” identified on a map, in real-time with friends, relatives and colleagues, and communities, creating a vast repository of comments, ratings, and maps of all “Places” that other GyPSii users can search based on location proximity. “Social Networking applications are becoming increasingly more important to the end user, and this type of innovation is evident of the progress in the world of mobile solutions,” stated Serge Bussat, vice president and general manager, Consumer Applications, NAVTEQ. “NAVTEQ is excited to be supporting an application that offers a new approach to social networking and user generated content.” “Part of GyPSii's value comes in its ability to associate exact locations to the user-generated content already available today. The accuracy of NAVTEQ map data was an important factor in the development of the application and will undoubtedly contribute to its success,” commented Dan Harple, CEO, GyPSii.” Harple added, “The partnership between NAVTEQ and GyPSii provides the first-ever globally available, mobile-to-desktop integrated lifestyle application. The device we all carry in our pocket, our mobile phone, is now empowered to record your life; where you are and what you do, and share it in real-time within your chosen social networking communities, mobile and across the non-mobile Internet.” GyPSii runs on Symbian S60 phones, Windows Mobile devices & Blackberry smartphones. Accredited on Nokia 6110, N95 and Windows Mobile platforms. GyPSii provides extended language support for users in no less than ten different languages - US English, UK English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Korean, Russian, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese. GyPSii is a semifinalist in the NAVTEQ Global LBS Challenge - EMEA, a program that challenges application developers around the world to build innovative location-based services (LBS) that work with mobile phones and/or wireless handheld devices using dynamic positioning technology and NAVTEQ maps.
