DATAllegro Announces New Utilities to Enable Easy Integration With and Migration From Teradata

Companies to Benefit by Increasing Data Warehouse Performance and Capacity While Lowering Cost

LAS VEGAS, Feb. 19, 2008 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- DATAllegro(tm), the supplier of the most advanced data warehouse appliance on an enterprise-class platform, today announced a new set of utilities as part of its data warehouse appliance offering. The new utilities are designed to allow companies to easily move data to and from Teradata data warehouses and to migrate applications from Teradata to DATAllegro. Companies can use DATAllegro and the utilities alongside their existing Teradata data warehouses in order to add capacity and/or increase performance at a very low cost. They can also use them to replace a Teradata enterprise data warehouse (EDW) with DATAllegro. The utilities are included with implementation packages supplied by DATAllegro, as well as a variety of DATAllegro partners, and are already being used at a number of DATAllegro customer sites.

Examples include:

 * A retail company is offloading Teradata data on a daily basis to a
DATAllegro data warehouse appliance in order to analyze data across
   a number of stores.
 * A manufacturing company is migrating from Teradata to a grid of
   DATAllegro appliances.

"After Teradata, DATAllegro is the appliance vendor most proven to handle super-large databases," said Curt Monash, President of Monash Research and author of the influential blog DBMS2. "If you need to build a several hundred terabyte data warehouse, who else are you going to call?"

"Teradata has enjoyed a long history of success based on its technology that was developed over 20 years ago," said Stuart Frost, CEO of DATAllegro. "However, its architecture requires a very large data center footprint that results in very high costs. DATAllegro's technology, with its non-proprietary platform, is very leading-edge and offers much higher performance per server -- around 10 times that offered by Teradata. Our customers are successfully migrating from Teradata or augmenting their Teradata implementations with DATAllegro to add capacity and performance at a very affordable price."

DATAllegro also recently announced new grid technology in its data warehouse appliances that allow companies to build hub-and-spoke architectures.

Frost continued: "Teradata's monolithic approach requires companies to centralize their data into a single data warehouse. While this is appropriate for some companies, many companies could benefit from having a hub-and-spoke architecture that allows the business units to have control over their own data marts, while still enabling centralized control for corporate governance. Our grid-enabled data warehouse appliances represent a step forward in the data warehouse market by enabling this more advanced architecture."

DATAllegro's Teradata Utility Allows You To:

 * Easily convert BTEQ production jobs with the DATAllegro DASQL
   Batch client
 * Quickly convert DDL from Teradata to DATAllegro
 * Connect to the Teradata environment and extract table structures
(schema) and data and import them into DATAllegro
