Solomon Promoted to President and CEO of Sysco Food Services - West Coast Florida, Inc.


HOUSTON, Feb. 19, 2008 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- SYSCO Corporation (NYSE:SYY), North America's largest foodservice marketer and distributor, announced today that Edwin W. Solomon has been appointed president and CEO of Sysco Food Services - West Coast Florida, Inc. He succeeds Carl S. Cannova, who has been promoted to chairman of that company until his retirement at the end of SYSCO's fiscal year, June 28, 2008. Currently, Mr. Solomon is president and chief executive officer of SYSCO's New Orleans subsidiary. Both promotions are effective March 31, 2008.

Mr. Solomon began his SYSCO career as a marketing associate for Sysco Food Services of Central Florida in Orlando in 1978. He progressed to director of multi-unit accounts in 1992 and vice president of healthcare sales in 1994. Mr. Solomon transferred to the West Coast Florida operating company in 1996 as vice president of sales and advanced to senior vice president of sales in 1998 and executive vice president of the company in 1999. In 2002, he relocated to New Orleans in his current role.

A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Mr. Solomon earned a bachelor of science degree in marketing from Ohio State University in 1970. He served as an officer in the United States Navy, then earned a master of business administration degree from Michigan State University in 1974. He will be relocating to the Tampa Bay area in the near future.
