Globalstar Granted Brazilian Regulatory Approval and Prepares for Expanded Data Coverage in South America

Globalstar Plans Immediate Expansion of South American Data Coverage to Support Asset Tracking and SPOT Satellite Messenger Products

MILPITAS, Calif., Feb. 21, 2008 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Globalstar, Inc. (Nasdaq:GSAT), a leading provider of mobile satellite voice and data services to businesses, governments, and individuals, today announced that it has received the necessary Agencia Nacional de Telecomunicacoes (ANATEL) regulatory approval for its agreement to purchase the Globalstar independent gateway operator in Brazil from Loral Space & Communications Inc. and various affiliated entities. The acquisition will pave the way for Globalstar to immediately expand its Simplex data coverage in South America and engage in future discussions with potential partners to provide ancillary terrestrial component or ATC-type services in Brazil. Before closing the transaction, Globalstar must have on file an effective registration statement for the shares of Globalstar stock to be issued as consideration for the acquisition. Globalstar expects that the registration statement will be made effective in March, 2008.

Once the acquisition is completed Globalstar will begin managing the Brazilian satellite business plus the three satellite gateway ground stations located in the country. Globalstar has commenced the process of installing Simplex data hardware upgrades at the satellite gateway located in Petrolina, Brazil. The upgrades will permit Globalstar to expand its Simplex data coverage throughout all of Brazil, into parts of Northeastern Argentina and the Atlantic coastal maritime region. With this expansion Globalstar will be able to offer its customers seamless simplex data coverage in North and South America, stretching from Alaska south to Argentina.

"Now that we have received the local regulatory approvals, Globalstar is a step closer to having direct access to an estimated market of approximately 200 million people for our satellite voice and integrated Duplex data products, plus we have already started the upgrades needed to support Simplex data products such as the SPOT," said Jay Monroe, Chairman and CEO of Globalstar, Inc. Mr. Monroe added, "The agreement is part of our ongoing strategy of expanding and improving Globalstar's service offerings for international customers roaming in the region as well as domestic users in Brazil. We are also interested in speaking with potential partners to develop future ATC-type solutions for the Brazilian market, similar to those we are working on in the United States."

The Globalstar Simplex data offering is a low cost, one-way satellite data service that permits customers to use Simplex data modems and integrated back office management solutions to track mobile assets -- such as vehicles, trailers, cargo containers and marine vessels, using GPS or other location-based software. It can also provide personal tracking solutions for commercial and recreational customers using products such as the SPOT Satellite Messenger. Simplex data service can also be used for a wide variety of industrial and security applications to monitor and send information from fixed assets, such as environmental measuring instruments, utility meters, or report the state of various mobile sensor devices and their locations.

A Globalstar subsidiary will own and operate the Brazilian gateways, which along with the Globalstar satellite constellation will provide mobile satellite voice and data services to all of Brazil as well as hundreds of kilometers off the country's east coast in the Atlantic maritime region.
