A Fascinating Journey At the Crossroads of Life -- Distinguished Playwright and Theater Director Frans Boerlage Weaves An Intriguing Tale of a Man's Rediscovery of His 'Real Self'

SANTA MONICA, Calif., Feb. 26, 2008 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Tom van Voorst is a forty-five year-old Dutchman in the midst of a major dilemma. As he stands at the crossroads of life, he realizes he is tired of living his life as a lie and decides to unveil his "real self". Follow his fascinating journey as he chooses a new path of acceptance in Changing Gears: A Tale of Relationships; Gay and Straight written by distinguished playwright and theater director Frans Boerlage.

Tommy becomes Tom when he marries and starts a happy life in Holland. After twenty years of marriage and fathering two sons, Tom yields to his latent desires and adopts a gay lifestyle in a place a thousand miles away from his native Amsterdam. By recapturing his earlier ways, he becomes Tommy again.

A long struggle between Tom and Tommy ensues. Embroiled in guilt and ambiguity, Tom feels a compulsion to "come out," but is he ready to do just that?

An epic novel that explores the essence of the crossroads of life, Changing Gears tells about the new path Tom has taken, his so-called "changing gears" -- in order to fulfill his real "Self". Tom, often called Tommy, represents the two unique sides of the same person, torn by guilt, confusion and ambiguity. He must rid himself of the burden he has carried his whole life, the stifling rules of convention that restrict him. Thus, he becomes free to pursue his true identity and fit into the "Acceptance-Game of Life."
