In the light of reports on nationalisation of slaughterhouses in
Venezuela we wish to inform as follows based on information from
sources in the food industry as well as the local press in Venezuela:
1. The Venezuelan state has purchased a dairy business (Los Andes)
with an installed capacity of fresh milk equivalent to approx. 35 per
cent of the installed capacity in the country.
2. The state has purchased a cold storage company, CEALCO, which
operates a number of cold storage facilities used by the meat
industry.
3. The state is said to be considering the purchase of a manufacturer
within feedstuff, egg and chicken - but no further information is
available.
4. Finally, last year the state purchased two cattle slaughterhouses
with a very large installed capacity. However, due to limited
supplies of cattle, the capacity is not being fully utilised.
In each case the sale to the state has been on commercial conditions.
None of the transactions are expected to have any significant effect
on the market segments addressed by EAC's subsidiary, Plumrose
Latinoamericana C.A.
