A final report of the pre-feasibility study on synchronous operation of the Baltic Power Systems with the UCTE (Union for the Co-ordination of Transmission of Electricity) was approved on March 20, 2008. The study contains the assessment of various technical, economic, financial and organisational conditions, analysis of the existing situation, modelling of possible systems interconnection scenarios for their synchronous operation. The study also identifies indispensable measures and presents principal conclusions. According to the preliminary estimations, the costs of implementation of the necessary infrastructure development projects would total approx. EUR 2.5billion. Totally, at least three 400kV interconnecting lines between the Baltic Power Systems and the UCTE have to be constructed. The pre-feasibility study was prepared by the transmission system operators: Lietuvos energija, Augstsprieguma Tikls (Latvia), Pohivork (Estonia), PSE-Operator (Poland).
