About the Author

Sallie Haven came originally from the lower Hudson Valley where her family lived for many generations. Her first two novels are set there. She originally sang opera and oratorio. She attended Smith College, received her B.A. and M.A. at SUNY-Albany and her Ph.D. in Sociology from the Union Institute. Her interest in diverse cultures began at the Harvard Yenching Institute as editorial secretary for the Harvard Journal of Asiatic Studies. Dr. Haven taught at Skidmore College, SUNY-Albany and for many years for Elmira College. She is now widowed and has four children, all of whom function in the performing arts.
