Power Integrations Added to Cleantech Stock Index

Company's EcoSmart Technology Slashes Electricity Waste in Electronic Products

SAN JOSE, Calif., March 28, 2008 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Power Integrations (Nasdaq:POWI), the leader in high-voltage analog integrated circuits for power conversion and the inventor of EcoSmart(r) energy-efficiency technology, will be added to The Cleantech Index (AMEX:CTIUS) effective March 29, 2008. The index is comprised of 46 public companies that are leaders in clean technology innovation and commercial deployment across a broad range of industry sectors, including energy efficiency, renewables, air and water purification and eco-friendly agriculture.

Power Integrations integrated circuits with EcoSmart technology are used in power supplies, which convert high-voltage AC power from a wall outlet into the low-voltage DC power needed by most electronic products. EcoSmart technology intelligently manages the flow of power through a power supply, reducing energy consumption during normal operation, maximizing efficiency during "standby" power conditions and cutting no-load losses by up to 97 percent. According to Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, standby and no-load losses (the power consumed while an electronic product is in its lowest-power mode) have been estimated to account for up to 10 percent of residential electricity consumption in OECD countries.

Since 1998, Power Integrations has sold more than two billion chips with EcoSmart technology, saving consumers and businesses an estimated $2.8 billion on their electricity bills and preventing more than an estimated 18 million tons of CO2 emissions. The company's chips can be found in all manner of electronic products, including computer and A/V equipment, home appliances, cellphone chargers, LED lighting fixtures, utility meters and many more.

"Improving the efficiency of electronic products is one of the most cost-effective, readily available means of reducing carbon emissions," said Balu Balakrishnan, president and CEO of Power Integrations. "Our EcoSmart technology represents the state of the art in power supply efficiency, enabling high efficiency at no additional cost to manufacturers or consumers.

"We are pleased to be included in The Cleantech Index alongside dozens of other companies who believe, like we do, that innovation is the key to addressing the world's environmental challenges," Balakrishnan added.

Power Integrations is also a member of the NASDAQ Clean Edge U.S. Index (Nasdaq:CLEN) and the NASDAQ Clean Edge U.S. Liquid Series Index (Nasdaq:CELS), and has twice been named to the list of the world's 20 most sustainable stocks by SustainableBusiness.com.
