The power situation in Norway as of 2 April 2008

Lysaker, 2 April 2008
Nord Pool has received the following information from the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE):

Low prices in Southern Norway

Southern Norway had the lowest price of electric power in the Nordic area in week 13. The average price was 20.7 øre/kWh. Reduced capacity outside of the area can explain the low price compared to the other elspot areas. In Middle and Northern Norway the prices increased from week 12, up to 30.9 and 28.8 øre/kWh respectively. Reduced wind power production on Thursday 27th gave higher prices in the Nordic areas. In Middle Norway the price rose to 42.3 øre/kWh, double that of Southern Norway.

In week 13, a spot price contract with a 1.9 øre/kWh mark-up, would have given a price of 40.5 øre/kWh. This is 12.7 øre/kWh more compared to what a spot price contract in Sothern Norway would have give in the same week.

The Norwegian reservoir level fell by 3.0 percentage points during week 13 and was down to 45.0 percent at the end of the week. The reservoir level is now 5.5 percentage points above the median level of the week. The Swedish reservoir level fell by 3.4 percentage points during week 13, and was down to 33.1 percent at the end of the week.
