Orion Energy Systems EVP Michael Potts to Speak At University of Wisconsin-Madison's Nelson Institute

Second Annual Earth Day Conference to Feature Plenary Speakers

MANITOWOC, Wis., April 2, 2008 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Orion Energy Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:OESX) Executive Vice President Michael Potts will address an audience of 350 state legislators, municipal associations, businesses and professional groups at the second annual Nelson Institute Earth Day Conference at the Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center in Madison, Wisconsin on April 16.

The conference titled "Sustaining Wisconsin's Environment and Economy: Responding to Climate Change," will include a broad range of discussion on climate change and actions being taken in Wisconsin to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Mr. Potts will present on the economic opportunities in greenhouse gas mitigation.

"Until recently, companies committed to reducing their energy usage and carbon footprint were forced to compromise on performance standards or invest in projects with unrealistic paybacks," said Mr. Potts. "New energy efficient and renewable products are providing better working environments and attractive returns on investments for businesses. In addition, the savings from energy efficiency and the potential to monetize carbon reductions on the emerging emissions trading market enable Wisconsin businesses to recognize enhanced profits and become even more competitive both nationally and internationally."

The Nelson Institute is a pioneer and world leader in the development of interdisciplinary environmental learning and inquiry. Established in 1970 as the Institute for Environmental Studies, it was renamed in 2002 for former Wisconsin Governor and U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson, the founder of Earth Day and a lifelong champion of environmental stewardship. The Nelson Institute offers a wide spectrum of courses and academic degree and certificate programs for undergraduate and graduate students in addition to a broad range of research and outreach activities.

Since 2001, Orion technology has displaced over 303 megawatts, saving customers $304 million, and reducing indirect CO2 emissions by 3.8 million tons.
