The Cooper Companies Announces the Introduction of Avaira Two-Week Silicone Hydrogel Contact Lens

PLEASANTON, Calif., April 3, 2008 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- The Cooper Companies, Inc. (NYSE:COO) today announced that its CooperVision subsidiary has introduced Avaira(tm), its two-week replacement silicone hydrogel contact lens, in the United States.

Commenting on the introduction, Cooper's chief executive officer Robert S. Weiss said, "The two-week silicone hydrogel replacement market is extremely important to us, and we are excited to bring Avaira, a premium third-generation silicone hydrogel lens, to the market."

Avaira features patented Aquaform(tm) technology, the same unique technology found in CooperVision's Biofinity(r) monthly replacement silicone hydrogel contact lens. This unique formulation helps Avaira stay moist in the eye all day without surface treatments, additives or wetting agents, thereby aiding in comfort and minimizing lens deposits.

In addition, the combination of high oxygen transmissibility and 46 percent water content aids in lens-wearing comfort. The lens is designed with an optically optimized back surface and rounded edges for easy fitting and better comfort.

Avaira is designed for replacement by wearers every two weeks following daily insertion and removal during that period.
