Telvent to Implement Its Toll System On Three Brazilian Highways

This Project, Awarded by the OHL Brasil Construction Company, Strengthens Telvent's Leadership Position in Toll and Traffic Control Systems in Brazil, Where More Than 3,500 Kilometers of Highway are Equipped With Telvent Technology


MADRID, Spain, April 10, 2008 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Telvent (Nasdaq:TLVT), the IT company for a sustainable and secure world, announced today that it will be in charge of supplying, installing and starting up its SmartToll system on three federal highways in Brazil. This project, valued at more than eight million euros, will be executed in less than a year. With this new system, Telvent will contribute daily to improving road safety for more than a million and a half automobiles.

The OHL Brasil construction company, which currently holds the most kilometers in Brazilian highway concessions, has entrusted Telvent to implement its toll collection system, which will entail the installation of 19 toll booths, three control centers (one per toll road), 348 tollways (of which 80 will be automated), as well as Telvent's SmartToll management software. Through this new contract, Telvent adds 1,200 kilometers to the 3,500 kilometers already under the Company's management in Brazil.

Toll control systems will be installed in the Fluminense highway, connecting Rio de Janeiro to Vitoria, the Fernao Diaz highway, connecting Sao Paulo to Belo Horizonte, and the Regis Bittencourt highway, connecting Sao Paulo to Curitiba.

Telvent carries out numerous projects in Brazil, among which the following stand out: highway management, ticketing systems, the UTC development and maintenance in Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo and Belo Horizonte, as well as the control system for the storage terminal in Suape, and the SCADA water distribution management system for the water utility in Belo Horizonte.
