On Friday, 11th of April, 2008, Mr. Vasily Melnik, Chairman of the Board of Riga Shipyard, will hand over into operation a tugboat SANTA to Riga Free Port Administration. The tugboat is 34m long, the total power of her engines is 5000 HP, she is capable to brake 70cm thick ice layer. This and other important features make SANTA be as one of the most powerful ice class tugboats on the Eastern shore of Baltic Sea providing safe entrance of the biggest vessels to Riga port. Due to SANTA's complex additional equipment such as fire fighting system, oil leakage collection system, she might be successfully used in rescue operations on water. The tugboat SANTA is equipped with the modern navigation and radio communication systems, and she conforms to all of the requirements of the international conventions. The ceremony of the hand-over will take place in Riga, Meldru street 5a , with the participation of President of Republic of Latvia, Prime Minister, as well as businessmen and representatives of the ministries, municipality, and foreign embassies.
