HiQ Finland has developed new register for Hippos - Finnish Trotting and
Breeding Association Horse Register Updated by 20 Years

The Finnish Trotting Association (Suomen Hippos) has implemented a new Horse
Register developed by HiQ's Finnish subsidiary HiQ Softplan Oy. The complete
revamp of the 20-year-old system was the largest investment made by Hippos
within the past few years. The Horse Register is the core tool for trotting
competitions and horse breeding. Horse and person registers are maintained with
it, and - in addition to Hippos itself - it is actively used by trotting race
tracks and breeding associations.

“The new system, ‘Heppa' (Children's speak for horse in Finnish), has many
differences compared with the old one. One of the key improvements is that
‘Heppa' can be used over the Internet. In the past we only had one single
computer at the race tracks or at the association's office where users could
input data”, says Hippos' Development Manager Jukka Niskanen

Usability and real-time data are features brought about by new technology. The
database has also been revamped.

“It is now possible for the users to retrieve data and all kinds of compiled
statistics of horses, their offspring, horse show results, etc. During the
spring we are planning on add some functionalities including registering to
horse shows and trotting races, continues Niskanen.

‘Heppa' has been a substantial project for HiQ Softplan.

“It took altogether two and a half years from the start to finish and some ten
employees were committed to the project simultaneously at peak times. The
challenge in the project was to jump over several system generations at one go.
On the other hand the jump also gave some possibilities with the design”, says
Pekka Neva, CEO of HiQ Softplan.

HiQ and Hippos will continue to develop the system together.

“In the future, ‘Heppa' can be used for paying licenses, race insurances,
punitive payments, registration fees and the like in real time. Different
time-consuming processes are now - thanks to ‘Heppa' - really quick or even
automatic. One of the reasons for the investment was that we can save time and
money by using ‘Heppa', says Niskanen.
