Descartes Unveiling Intelligent Automatic Vehicle Locator Wireless Services At Global User Group Conference

ATLANTA, April 15, 2008 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Descartes Evolution 2008 User Group Conference -- Descartes Systems Group (Nasdaq:DSGX) (TSX:DSG), a global on-demand software-as-a-service (SaaS) logistics solutions provider, is introducing its latest intelligent Automated Vehicle Locator(tm)(AVL) wireless services to its customers and partners at the Descartes Global User Group Conference in Atlanta, Georgia.

Available on the Descartes Global Logistics Network, Descartes' AVL services integrate efficient on-demand delivery route planning and execution with Web-based tracking of vehicles via global positioning satellites (GPS). The AVL services extend visibility to fleets in the field and enable delivery route changes on-the-fly when exceptions occur. Descartes' AVL is available on a variety of mobile devices and wireless networks, and integrates with many back-office software applications.

"Descartes' AVL offerings do much more than simply provide visibility into shipment arrivals at a customer's door," said Chris Jones, Executive Vice President, Solutions and Services at Descartes. "By integrating on-demand route planning and optimization with real-time visibility, dispatchers and customer service staff gain access to a Web-based view of delivery status in real-time. It also provides rapid notification of critical events affecting deliveries, enabling operators to make customer-focused decisions on routes and delivery reservations in real-time to reduce costs, streamline operations, and ensure consistent quality of service."

Descartes AVL provides field data updates and tracking in real-time, from basic GPS coordinates to more complex black-box engine diagnostics. With the depth of data provided, operators can also measure delivery performance against planned routes, and notify dispatch and/or customer service operations of changes made during the delivery cycle. Field workers also have visibility into relevant shipment data to keep up-to-date on delivery status to more effectively coordinate arrival times.

"We recognize that the worlds of route optimization, fleet tracking and performance monitoring are converging and that Descartes is a market-leader servicing customers in these segments," said Paul Deering, Vice President of Sprint Advanced Wireless Solutions. "Descartes' intelligent AVL services can provide repeatable value across our joint customer base."

"Mobile technologies, including Windows Mobile 6, are enabling forward-looking software providers like Descartes to leverage GPS and other wireless and location technologies to put executives, operators and customer service agents right next to their resources in the field, thereby extending valuable software solutions into their sensor-enabled supply chains," said Colin Masson, worldwide director for supply chain and ERP solutions at Microsoft Corp.
