The power situation in Norway as of 4 June 2008

Lysaker, 4 June 2008
Nord Pool has received the following information from the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE):

High power prices in the north
In week 22 the average power price in Northern Norway was 43 øre/kWh. This is the highest average price in a Norwegian area since week 46 of 2006. In Middle Norway the price was 40 øre/kWh; in southern Norway the price was 12 øre/kWh. Throughout the week Middle Norway had the same prices as Sweden and Finland in most hours. Northern Norway had the same daytime prices but the price didn't fall as much during the nights as they did in Middle Norway, Sweden and Finland. Different types of power plants and low cable capacity explain the price differences.

The inflow to the Norwegian reservoirs increased in all the Norwegian elspot areas in week 22. Inflow increased by 4.7 percentage points during the week and was 56.4 percent at the end of the week. The inflow in Norway is now 9.2 percentage points above the median level of the week.
