Promosome LLC Announces First Evaluation Contract for Translation Enhancing Elements (TEEs)

Millipore to Evaluate Promosome's TEE Technology for Enhancing Protein Synthesis in Combination With Its Proprietary UCOE Expression Technology

NEW YORK, June 4, 2008 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Promosome LLC, a biotechnology company specializing in innovative technologies related to the regulation of protein synthesis, today announced the signing of a non-exclusive technology evaluation contract with Millipore Corporation, a life science leader that provides technologies, tools and services for bioscience research and biopharmaceutical manufacturing.

Under the terms of the agreement, Millipore will evaluate Promosome's Translation Enhancing Elements (TEEs) in combination with its proprietary Ubiquitous Chromatin Opening Element (UCOE(tm)) expression technology, and will have the option to negotiate a license agreement with Promosome. The combination of the two technologies has the potential to significantly enhance recombinant protein yield in mammalian cell lines which are commonly used in the development and production of therapeutic proteins. TEEs are synthetic messenger RNA (mRNA) sequences that can be used to greatly enhance protein expression in a variety of eukaryotic cells and are thought to be highly complementary to technologies that increase gene transcription, like Millipore's UCOE technology, which delivers rapid, stable and high level protein expression by maintaining transgenes in an open chromatin environment.

"We are extremely pleased to have this evaluation opportunity with Millipore, an organization recognized as a leader in the biopharmaceutical manufacturing field," said John Manzello Promosome's President and Chief Executive Officer. "Our business strategy is to work with partners such as Millipore to maximize the commercial potential of our TEE technology platform. The combination of UCOE(tm) technology, which is transcription-based, with Promosome's technology, which is translation-based, is quite logical from a protein synthesis perspective. By combining these technologies, we expect to exploit the complementary benefits of both, enabling very high producing cell lines to be generated quickly. We look forward to a successful evaluation opening the door for the possible commercialization of the TEE and UCOE combination."

About Promosome

Promosome is a New York City-based biotechnology company that was founded to commercialize the discoveries and further the work of Nobel Laureate Dr. Gerald M. Edelman, Dr. Vincent P. Mauro and their colleagues at The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI) in La Jolla, California, specifically in the areas of gene regulation and protein expression. Their focus on understanding fundamental aspects of mRNA translation is anticipated to drive a number of significant biotechnology applications in bioproduction and DNA Vaccines. Promosome has established a Research Funding and Option Agreement with TSRI and the laboratories of Dr.'s Edelman and Mauro and has a worldwide exclusive license for the TEE Technology.
