"Northrop Grumman strongly supports education at all levels and stands ready to partner with great organizations, such as AFCEA, to ensure that outstanding students are recognized and rewarded," said Tim Peppe, Northrop Grumman corporate lead executive for Air Force Programs, Air Combat Command. "We take particular interest in science, technology, engineering, and math -- or STEM -- education because our nation's high-tech work force problems are acute."

The inaugural scholarship was awarded to 10 students from area high schools:

Northrop Grumman also supports teachers and students still in high school through various programs including the Northrop Grumman Foundation's Weightless Flights of Discovery program, giving teachers the experiences and tools to show students science and math can be fun, as well as the FIRST Robotics Competition, aimed at developing interest in engineering.

"We pursue these educational efforts because we are keenly aware of the need for cyber-technical support and training not only in Northwest Louisiana but also in other states," said Peppe. "This preparation is essential to meet cyber-security challenges spanning defense and homeland security solutions, whether secure wireless, network infrastructure, information assurance, or modeling and simulation."
