Photo Release -- Foundry Networks' BigIron RX Interface Module Receives 'Best of Show' Award At Interop Tokyo 2008

Foundry Advances the Next-Generation Data Center With An Unprecedented High-Performance Solution for Increasing Capacity, Density, Energy and Space Efficiency

SANTA CLARA, Calif. and TOKYO, June 16, 2008 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Foundry Networks(r), Inc. (Nasdaq:FDRY), a performance and total solutions leader for end-to-end switching and routing, today announced its new BigIron(r) RX 16-port 10GbE SFP+ module (RX-BI16XG) interface module(1) was honored with the 'Best of Show' award in the Network Infrastructure for Enterprise product category. Selected by Interop Tokyo judges, the industry-leading module offers 16-ports of 10 gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) for Foundry's(tm) award-winning BigIron RX Series backbone switches. For data centers and high-performance computing (HPC) environments, the BigIron RX-BI16XG interface module dramatically expands the number of 10GbE ports supported in a single chassis and in a single rack. Whether desiring 64 ports of 10GbE in four rack units (RU) or 512 ports of 10GbE in a single chassis, Foundry's new 16-port 10GbE module allows for unprecedented densities.

With the RX-BI16XG module, the BigIron RX Series now delivers more than twice the 10GbE density of its nearest competitor in order to deliver exceptional flexibility, scalability, and efficiency for advanced data centers and HPC applications. This data center module leverages the advanced Quality of Service (QoS) functionality, the Virtual Output Queue (VOQ) and the lossless Clos fabric-based architecture of the BigIron RX Series, allowing for incomparable performance, redundancy and scalability. The BigIron RX-BI16XG module operates in all four chassis of the series, interoperates with all existing I/O modules, and offers data center managers and HPC cluster designers the highest density and lowest power consumption for 10GbE on the market.

The new 10GbE module augments the current BigIron RX series GbE capacity of up to 1,536 GbE ports per system. Together these leading capacities for 10GbE and GbE provide highly scalable and highly flexible solutions for server aggregation. The industry-leading performance of the BigIron RX Series enables collapsing server connectivity in the data center into fewer or into a single chassis design to allow for lower total cost of ownership (TCO), higher return on investment (ROI), and simplified management. Further supporting Foundry's ongoing efficiency and green networking initiatives, the module enhances the BigIron RX Series' already class-leading advantages: low power consumption, reduced cooling needs and less rack space requirements. Finally, the inherent hardware and software resiliency of the series, combined with its support for industry standard and proprietary rapid convergence protocols further enable high-availability data center services.

The Best of Show awards are targeted to help network architects and administrators shorten the evaluation process in assessing new technology products. By identifying innovative new products at Interop, the awards assist in maximizing the business value of IT infrastructure. This is the fifth time in four years that Foundry has received a Best of Show award at Interop Tokyo, which demonstrates Foundry's leadership in delivering comprehensive networking solutions to the world's most demanding enterprise and service provider customers.

"We are very pleased to receive the prestigious Best of Show award at Interop Tokyo," said Bobby Johnson, president and chief executive officer for Foundry Networks. "Our focus on networking leadership and innovation empowers customers to unleash the full potential of business-critical applications and their IT infrastructure. As enterprises continue to experience unprecedented data growth, the award-winning BigIron RX module will allow network architects to design next-generation data centers and HPC networks with unprecedented density, scalability and efficiency, while minimizing heating, cooling and space requirements for a new and compelling business proposition."
