Plug Power Joins Russell 3000 Index

Plug Power Stock Attractive Addition to Long-Term Investment Strategies

LATHAM, N.Y., June 30, 2008 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Plug Power Inc. (Nasdaq:PLUG), a leader in providing clean, reliable energy solutions, announces their inclusion in the Russell 3000(r) Index. On June 13th, the preliminary list of members was issued on the Russell website. The final list became available on June 27th, one of the most highly-anticipated and busiest trading days in the U.S. equity markets. Russell Indexes are widely used by investment managers and institutional investors for index funds and as benchmarks for investment strategies.

Annual reconstitution of Russell's U.S. indexes captures the 4,000 largest U.S. stocks as of the end of May, ranking them by total market capitalization. Membership in the Russell 3000, which remains in place for one year, means automatic inclusion in the large-cap Russell 1000(r) Index or small-cap Russell 2000(r) Index as well as the appropriate growth and value style indexes. Russell determines membership for its equity indexes primarily by objective, market-capitalization rankings and style attributes.

"We're pleased that Plug Power was included in the Russell 2000 Index of small-cap companies, further validating our leadership position within the fuel cell sector. We believe the inclusion will raise the visibility of our stock specifically, and alternative energy stocks in general, within the investor community," said Andy Marsh, President and CEO of Plug Power. "Our expectation is that investment managers and institutional investors will hold Plug Power stock as part of their long-term investment strategies."

The Russell 3000 also serves as the U.S. component of the Russell Global Index, which Russell launched last year. An industry-leading $4.4 trillion in assets currently are benchmarked against Russell Indexes.
