Canadian Athletes Race to the Olympics on Mondo's Super X Performance Track

WINDSOR, Ontario, July 1, 2008 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- When top Canadian track and field athletes race for a spot on their country's Olympic team, they'll take their marks on the track that's been used for the past eight Olympic Games - Mondo's world-renowned Super X Performance track.

The 2008 Canadian Track and Field Olympic Trials will take place Thursday through Sunday at University of Windsor Stadium, a state-of-the-art multipurpose facility that features a world-class, eight-lane, 400-meter Mondo Super X Performance track. The stadium, which opened in 2005, also has Mondo surfaces for its four long-jump pits, javelin runway and high-jump area. In addition, the university's St. Denis Centre, an indoor facility where athletes practice and warm up, features a Mondo track.

"We were very pleased with the Mondo track in our indoor facility, so when it came time to choose the track surface for the new stadium, Mondo was the obvious choice," said Dennis Fairall, head coach of the University of Windsor track and field and cross country programs. "Mondo is an extremely fast competition track. We have seen some outstanding times on the Mondo surface. But it's also a great track for training. With Mondo, our athletes stay healthy, and they train and perform at their best."

The world's top track for more than 30 years and the official track for the past eight Olympic Games, Mondo Super X Performance has been installed at more than 1,100 venues around the world. It is recognized globally as the fastest, most durable and environmentally safest track available.

"Canada's Olympic hopefuls know they need to perform their absolute best if they want to compete in Beijing, and with Mondo, the world's No. 1 track surface, they know they will," said Federico Stroppiana, president of Mondo North and South America. "Many athletes have achieved faster times when running on Mondo tracks versus other surfaces, which is why nearly 230 world records-including Usain Bolt's 9.72 seconds in the recent Reebok Grand Prix 100 meters-and countless national and personal bests have been set on Mondo tracks."

Mondo designed Super X Performance to maintain its initial physical properties so it provides consistent performance throughout its life. The vulcanized natural rubber surface provides maximum elasticity and unparalleled durability, and its embossed, textured finish makes it extremely easy to maintain with no resurfacing required. This high-performance track is renowned for its shock absorption and optimal energy return, and its ideal blend of speed and comfort minimizes the occurrence of injuries.

The company's newest surface, Mondotrack, will be in place for the Beijing Olympics in August.
