First North announcement # 11, 2008 Copenhagen, July 4, 2008 Aresa has established two operational subsidiaries in Balkan to acquire and start clearing landmine infected areas During this week the two newly established subsidiaries in Croatia and Serbia, respectively, have become operational. The objective for the two subsidiaries is to engage in projects clearing landmines and ammunition in the two countries, as it has previously been communicated in First North announcements #3 and #8. In collaboration with regional stakeholders and local companies, it is planned to invest an amount up to DKK 5 mill. in mine infected areas and to start the clearing of the mines during 2008. The areas will be carefully selected with focus on the socio-economic potential for the local community, when the landmines have been cleared. ”We intend to start clearing more than 500.000 m2 during 2008, corresponding to 500 plots for family houses or 5% of the total cleared area in Croatia in 2006”, says Steen Thaarup, CEO of Aresa. ”There are many interesting economical perspectives in acquiring un-productive areas, to be cleared and remediated into productivity again”, says Kim Bretting, who has been appointed as director for the two subsidiaries, and he continues: ”the most important however, is we can increase the area of arable land including creating a number of jobs directly and indirectly”.
