Mediware Launches Blood Center Technologies

Mediware Delivers Unique Technology Products and World-class Services Through a Dedicated Business Group to Drive Growth From the Blood Supplier Market

LENEXA, Kan., July 9, 2008 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Mediware Information Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:MEDW), a provider of ClosedLoop(tm) clinical systems for blood and medication management, announced the launch of a dedicated Blood Center Technologies (BCT) business unit. This group is expected to drive growth as Mediware expands its focus in the blood donor market with innovative new products and services. Todd Collins, formerly the CEO of Integrated Marketing Solutions (IMS), was named vice president and general manager of the new business unit. IMS was acquired by Mediware in October of last year.

"Blood centers have unique business needs that are vastly underserved by existing technology solutions," said Kelly Mann, Mediware's president and chief executive officer. "Our products and services combine advanced technology, marketing and clinical capabilities to create powerful solutions that are engineered to the specific needs of blood centers. Through Mediware BCT, we are now the industry leader in innovative blood center solutions."

Mediware's new BCT offerings include the donor management tools and recruitment services acquired with IMS last year, and a new version of the company's 510(k) cleared LifeTrak software product. Collectively Mediware BCT solutions deliver integrated, end to end support for the blood center business cycle. This includes donor recruitment and relationship management, blood drive coordination, computer-assisted donor screening, testing, clinical processing, product distribution, and hospital relationship management.

"Mediware BCT differentiates itself from competitors by providing a la carte offerings that are completely web-based, quick to install and easy to use. All of these are backed by an experienced world-class support organization," said Mann.

"We've seen tremendous interest in the new BCT model and I expect this to be a key area of growth for Mediware in the future," continued Mann.

One of the nation's most prestigious blood centers was the first customer to embrace Mediware's new blood center solutions model. The BloodCenter of Wisconsin announced their strategic commitment on April 14, 2008. In an initial press release, Janet Slater, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Business Development for BloodCenter of Wisconsin, said:

"The addition of these new relationship-oriented technologies to Mediware's clinical capabilities creates a compelling vision and opens us to new levels of efficiency. We will be able to more effectively recruit and retain donors, improve customer service and build better relationships with our hospital partners."

More than 50% of the U.S. blood supply is leveraging at least one Mediware BCT product. There are more than 85 product installations within North America alone. This includes both independent blood centers as well as many of the American Red Cross regions.
