QLogic 8Gb Adapter, Now Shipping, Helps IBM System x Clients Drive Further Efficiencies

Only 8Gb Adapter Offering Dynamic Power Management and Cool HBA Technologies for a More Energy Efficient and Greener Data Center

ALISO VIEJO, Calif., July 15, 2008 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- QLogic Corp. (Nasdaq:QLGC), a leader in networking for storage and high performance computing (HPC), today announced it is now shipping QLogic(r) 2500 Series 8Gb Fibre Channel adapters for IBM System x servers. The 2500 Series host bus adapters (HBAs) are key contributors to a "greener" data center and are set apart from all other 8Gb HBAs with Dynamic Power Management and Cool HBA(tm) technologies -- two breakthrough innovations developed under the QLogic Star Power Green Initiative.

Dynamic Power Management gives the QLogic 2500 the unique ability to sense the type of PCI Express bus that is present and consume only the amount of power necessary to run at full speed. QLogic Cool HBA technology allows QLogic products like the QLogic 2500 Series HBAs to operate up to 55 degrees centigrade without any air flow, unlike competitive products which require fans in order to run cool.

IBM System x is a portfolio of robust servers built on IBM X-Architecture(r) -- IBM's blueprint for bringing innovation to Intel processor-based servers.

"Data center administrators are asking for high performance networks that are also energy efficient," said Amit Vashi, vice president of marketing, QLogic Host Solutions Group. "QLogic 2500 Series HBAs respond with powerful 8Gb performance while reducing the amount of power and cooling required for connecting servers to a SAN. We believe these will enhance IBM's already energy efficient System x servers."

QLogic 2500 Series HBAs -- Transforming Server Connectivity into Competitive Advantage

The QLogic 2500 Series is a family of 8Gb Fibre Channel-to-PCIe Gen2 adapters designed for next generation virtualized data centers with powerful multi-processor, multi-core servers. QLogic 2500 Series adapters are optimized for virtualization, power, RAS (reliability, availability, serviceability), security and management to transform server connectivity into competitive advantage. QLogic 2500 Series adapters also provide complete investment protection by maintaining backward compatibility with previous Fibre Channel network and PCIe host bus speeds.
