Actiontec and Entropic Communications Partner to Deliver Superior Video Network Performance to IPTV Homes

Actiontec's Next Generation Wireless Broadband Router Incorporates Entropic's MoCA Coaxial Network Controller to Provide Superior Streaming HD Performance

SAN DIEGO, Aug. 5, 2008 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Entropic Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq:ENTR), a leading provider of silicon solutions to enable connected home entertainment, and Actiontec Electronics, Inc. a leading developer of broadband connectivity and broadband-powered solutions, announced that the two companies have extended their partnership to deliver high performance, next generation customer premises equipment (CPE) for High-Speed Fiber network installations.

As one of Entropic's largest customers, Actiontec has been shipping MoCA-enabled devices incorporating Entropic's technology for over two years and has worked closely with Entropic to advance MoCA innovation and performance. Now, Actiontec has incorporated Entropic's MoCA 1.1 compliant coaxial network controller into its next generation wireless broadband router to enable superior network delivery of HD video.

Actiontec has successfully married its technology with Entropic's MoCA compliant chipsets to enable a robust digital entertainment network delivering multiple streams of HD video throughout the home utilizing the existing coax cable infrastructure. Actiontec's latest wireless broadband home router (Model # MI-424WR) incorporates Entropic's newest coaxial network controller (c.LINK EN2210) to deliver all the new features of MoCA 1.1, including high speed (175 Mbps), parameterized quality of service (PQoS), 16-node support, remote diagnostic capability and the intrinsic security of a shielded, wired connection combined with state of the art packet-level encryption. These important new features address the needs of service providers and are designed to easily and cost-effectively distribute multiple streams of HD quality entertainment throughout the connected home of today and tomorrow.

Setting a New Industry Standard for Performance

Actiontec maintains its leadership in home gateways with the new MI-424 WR which features advanced hardware design and superior performance. As a result, service providers can increase service speeds beyond 100 Mbps and better meet the needs of an increasingly sophisticated consumer base by rolling out multiple value-added, bandwidth-intensive applications, such as parental controls, online gaming, music, live sports, children's entertainment, movies and television programming.

"We are delighted to continue our successful collaboration with Actiontec to provide consumers with the best MoCA-compliant technology," said John Graham, Vice President of Marketing at Entropic. "The new features of our MoCA 1.1-compliant chipset, along with Actiontec's leading broadband connectivity solutions, are delivering the advanced network performance for the evolving connected home."

The EN2210 Coaxial Network Controller is the newest addition to Entropic's c.LINK(tm) family dedicated to allowing a complete coaxial networking solution for the distribution of multiple high definition and standard definition video, digital, voice and broadband data. The EN2210 combines increased host interface flexibility with reduced power consumption and lower system integration costs. Working together with the EN1010 Coaxial Network Interface, the chipset operates at radio frequencies from 800 to 1500 MHz, enabling compliance to the MoCA specification. Based on Entropic's c.LINK protocol, the core technology chosen by MoCA, the EN2210 enables secure and robust communication using existing home coaxial cables without the need for new wiring or modifications.

"Actiontec has a long history of working closely with Entropic to bring MoCA solutions to market. Actiontec products will continue to push performance boundaries by using leading MoCA technology from Entropic Communications," said Brian Henrichs, Vice President of Business Development at Actiontec Electronics, Inc.
