Plamann (#20) was recognized for completing Unified Grocers' acquisition of Associated Grocers, Inc. (Seattle, Wash.) in September 2007, which substantially increased the power of Unified's wholesale distribution cooperative and its independent retail member network. The magazine cited Plamann's deft handling of the acquisition and transition, both of which occurred without any significant disruptions to retailers' businesses. The publication also cited Plamann for his role in helping the Company to grow and expand its business beyond its West Coast base to Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada and Texas.

Joining Plamann on the 'Power 50' were 13 other executives representing various segments of the food industry who also made the list for the first time. This is the sixth year that Supermarket News, the industry's leading trade publication, has assembled the 'Power 50' list.
