The power situation in Norway as of 6 August 2008

Lysaker, 6 August 2008

Nord Pool has received the following information from the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE):

Lower Norwegian power production and export
The Norwegian power production decreased by 53 GWh from week 30 to 31. The decrease mainly accrued to Northern-Norway, and may be explained by reduced export capacity from this area to Sweden. The reduction of capacity is due to maintenance on the transmission line between these two areas.

The Norwegian net export was 401 GWh in week 31. That is the lowest net export since week 22. From week 30 to 31 the net export fell by 61 GWh. Outage of the NorNed-cable has contributed to the decrease. The NorNed-cable was out of operation from Sunday to Wednesday last week in consequence of technical errors.

A spot price contract, with a 1.9 øre/kWh mark-up, would have given a price of 54.9 øre/kWh to a consumer in the north of Norway. That is a decrease of 1.5 øre compared to the week before. The same contract in Middle- and Southern-Norway would have given prices of 58.5 44.1 øre/kWh respectively. In the corresponding week last year the price in Southern-Norway was 6.7 øre/kWh.
