Canyon Acres Raises More than $70,000 At 23rd Annual Par Fore Kids Golf Classic

ANAHEIM HILLS, Calif., Aug. 18, 2008 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Canyon Acres Children and Family Services, a charity organization committed to providing homes, care, treatment and supportive services for abused, neglected and emotionally troubled children and their families, today announced that its 23rd Annual Par Fore Kids Golf Classic raised more than $70,000 to benefit Canyon Acres' programs and services. The event took place on July 21, 2008 at the Yorba Linda Country Club.

With more than 150 guests in attendance, the full-course tournament began at 9 a.m. with a continental breakfast. Golfers received hand-rolled cigars at the first hole and a barbeque lunch halfway through. The day ended with a dinner buffet, 50/50 cash prize drawing and a live auction that included golf outings, a sunset cruise with dinner catered for 15, a Mercedes pedal car and autographed sports memorabilia. Other contests included putting, closest-to-the-pin and longest-drive. Simpson Buick Pontiac and GMC sponsored a win-a-car hole-in-one contest.

"Canyon Acres is thrilled to have witnessed such a high turnout this year," said Clete Menke, president of Canyon Acres. "The money raised at this event will help ensure quality programs and services for the children we serve throughout the year."

Distinguished attendees included celebrity guest and major-league baseball great Chuck Finley, former Angel Tim Salmon and event co-chairs Barbara D'Amato and Moe Ghazi. Major sponsors included the Kent H. Landsberg Co., A. Gary Anderson Family Foundation, Trilogy Capital, KOCE and Shadi Ghazi.

"We are very thankful to all of the participants and sponsors who helped make this year's event such a tremendous success," said D'Amato. "We had a wonderful day of golf, and the proceeds will go a long way in helping Southern California's most abused and neglected children."

Funds from the event will benefit Canyon Acres' various core services, which reach more than 200 children each day. These programs include the children's treatment center, mental health services and the enormously successful Wraparound and Creating Family Connections programs.
