Solutia Inc. to Supply Therminol VP-1 to Solar Thermal Power Plant in Egypt

ST. LOUIS, Aug. 18, 2008 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Solutia Inc. (NYSE:SOA) announced today that it will be supplying a solar thermal power plant in Egypt with Therminol(tm) VP-1, a synthetic heat transfer fluid designed to meet the demanding requirements of high temperature systems. Therminol heat transfer fluids have been utilized in the production of solar energy for more than 20 years, and their use in this application is expected to grow as global demand for solar power increases.

The Therminol VP-1 was purchased by Flagsol GmbH, Cologne, Germany, a market leader in this technology and a subsidiary of Solar Millennium AG. Flagsol GmbH is designing the solar field of this power plant as well as key solar components. In parabolic-trough power plants, trough-shaped mirrors reflect and concentrate incoming rays of the sun onto an absorber pipe along the collector's focal line. By the absorption of the concentrated sunlight the heat transfer fluid will be heated up to about 400*C. "Heat transfer fluid is an important component with high-quality requirements in Flagsol's solar electric generating system," said Paul Nava, managing director of Flagsol. "We need a heat transfer fluid with a proven track record for use in solar electric generating systems that can maintain its performance characteristics over years of continuous operation."

According to Matthias Schopf, Marketing Technical Service Manager for Therminol, "Customers continue to place their trust in Therminol because for nearly 45 years we have demonstrated our commitment to this market by providing innovative, high-quality products to the chemical process industry with performance that surpasses that of competitive fluids."

The Therminol family of heat transfer fluids features products that can meet the operating needs of virtually any single or multiple heat-using systems. In properly designed systems, these heat transfer fluids will perform within their respective temperature ranges for extended periods without breakdown or corrosion.

Solutia is the world leader in synthetic heat transfer fluids, providing nearly 45 years of excellence in technical support, customer service, performance and innovation.
